In December, I had the opportunity to visit LUX* Belle Mare Resort in Mauritius over New Year's Eve. I'd never been to Mauritius before, and after scouring through LUX's site it was obvious that if we were going to visit this country, we had to stay at their Belle Mare resort! I was picturing white sands, palm trees, crystal waters - basically paradise... I couldn't have been more right!

LUX Belle Mare Mauritius Pool
LUX* Belle Mare is the most beautiful hotel, in the most perfect of locations. With the biggest pool in Mauritius and it's own private beach, you're never too far to take refuge from the sun for a few minutes by cooling off in the pool or the crystal clear Indian Ocean. And if you fancy a Frozen Daquari or two (our drink of choice) you can either pop to the bar right next to the pool, or take advantage of the poolside service and order away! AH-MAZING!

The pool is right at the heart of the resort, surrounded by bars and restaurants, and even an ice-cream bar! If relaxing on the beach or poolside isn't enough, you can even take some time-out in the resort's spa, or take in the views at the peaceful gardens...

Our suite's decking/terrace area looked out onto these gardens and at night the pond and bridge were beautifully lit and the sound of frogs took over. Crossing that bridge every night with heels on and slightly drunk was always risky business, but beautiful nonetheless!

The resort offered so much to do throughout our stay, from a beautiful breakfast on the beach to cocktail making classes with their in their poolside Rum Bar, which is called 'Mari Kontan' - Mauritian Creole for 'very happy' - and it's safe to say we were after a few amazing rum cocktails!

If water sports is more your thing, there was plenty of that to go around too. We spent a few hours paddle boarding, although I didn't even bother attempting to stand up, and took a boat trip out to Iles Des Deux Cocos - a nearby island where we had a Mauritian lunch on the beach, then went snorkeling for a few hours which was incredible! The water is so clear and there were hundreds of fish to see.

The evenings were just as amazing, with canapes and champagne delivered to the room, then a selection of restaurants to choose from for dinner. Beach Rouge was a favourite, with views out onto the beach and an in house DJ to set the mood. The resort also has a beautiful authentic Chinese restaurant called Duck Laundry, which we visited a few times and they never failed to amaze us. After dinner we would head to K-Bar, named after Kelly Hoppen who designed the LUX* resort, and sip on Long Island Iced Tea's while we watched the evening entertainment.

To top off all of the evening events, there was New Year's Eve. There is no better way to bring in the New Year than dancing in the ocean while you count down with your best friend and a glass of champagne, so that's exactly what we did...
