Holiday Make-Up Essentials

When I go anywhere, whether that's a two week holiday or just an overnight stay, I always over pack. I over pack clothes, I over pack shoes, but the thing that I over pack the most is make-up. I think it's because I worry that I'll get caught short without something, when in reality I have more than I ever actually use in a month crammed into my suitcase. So, when it came to going away for New Year's Eve to Mauritius for 8 nights... of course I over packed! Out of the 27kg's of luggage I took, here are the holiday make-up essentials I actually used and needed.

Primer, Foundation, Concealer & Powder

Holiday Make-Up Essentials Foundation Primer Concealer

Before I went away, I had a panic about my foundation being far too light once I got a tan. I tan pretty easily and i could just picture myself on day 3 with a face that was 10 shades lighter than my body. Luckily, Dermablend offered to send me some of their foundation and powder, as the brands packaging had undergone a sleek new makeover! I cheekily explained my situation and got my hands on my usual shade (25 Nude) and a shade darker (35 Sand) to take away with me! Sure enough, after about 2 days I was mixing the two together, then around day 4 I was just using shade 35! Thank god I planned ahead!

During the day I didn't wear much makeup, especially if we were just chilling on the beach or my the pool. Murad's Invisiblur was perfect for day wear, as it had SPF 30 and gave my skin a bit of a glow! This primer is a little pricey, but it's 100% worth the money! If you like Benefit's Porefessional you'll love this, it leaves the same silky texture on the skin, making it easier to apply your foundation!

On days where my skin needed a little extra coverage (flashback to far too many Long Island Iced Teas and drinking games) I used a little bit of Sunday Riley's Breathable Tinted Primer and my trusty NARS Creamy Concealer for undereyes, topped off with a little bit of Dermablend's powder to avoid shine.

Contour, Bronze, Blush, Highlight

I still absolutely love the Sleek Contour Kit. I always think I should branch out and try some new ones, but I just love this one too much to ever let it go! I only contoured in the evenings as it was far too hot to wear make-up during the day. I bronzed myself even more using the NARS Laguna Bronzer, mostly at the beginning of the holiday when you feel like the palest person at the hotel!

My go-to blush was the HD Brows Powder Blush in Cocktail, it's a bright pink with gold highlight, perfect for holiday vibes! I used this a little in the day too if I was looking a bit tired (hungover). My favourite highlighter of the holiday - and of the past few months - has been the MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter in Iridescent Gold. It's really subtle but the gold tones look amazing in the light!

Brows

Holiday Make-Up Essentials Brows Eylure Sleek

The brow products I used are just standard brow products, no holiday specials or anything too exciting! During the day I'd use the Eylure Brow Amplifier to darken and thicken my brows slightly, then I'd usually fill them in properly for the evenings using the Sleek Brow Kit in Dark. The kit has a gel and powder - really similar to Benefits Brow Zings.

Eyeliner & Mascara

Holiday Make-Up Essentials Eyeliner Mascara Benefit They're Real Too Faced Better Than Sex Tarte Gifted Revlon Photoready

Two mascaras for one holiday might seem excessive, (actually, I did take more but only used these two). I'd use the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara in the day to give my lashes a little lift, then in the evening I'd use the Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara. This is my absolute favourite mascara at the moment and I pick this up before Benefit's Roller Lash or They're Real! As for eyeliners, I took Benefits They're Real Liner - the only liquid/gel liner I ever use, and Revlon's Photoready Kajal Liner.

Holiday Make-Up Essentials NARS Dual Intensity Palette

Packing eyeshadows is where I have a problem. I took six or seven palettes with me and only used these three, but I panic pack just in case I wish I'd packed something else! These three palettes were the only ones I needed. The first one is the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette, and actually the only matte palette I own! I can't get enough of this palette at the moment, especially the purpley shades 'best friend', 'bombshell' and 'fashionista'.

The second palette I used while I was away was the Make-Up Revolution Ultra Professional Eyeshadow 'Flawless'. This palette has 32 earthy shades, a few mattes but mainly shimmery. Again, I mainly used the purpley shades, but the coppers and golds were amazing for summery smokey eyes! My last trusty holiday palette was the NARS NARSissist Dual Intensity Palette. This palette is dreamy, and I used every colour while I was away except for the silver shade 'Lysithea' as silvers just don't suit me. I definitely used a good amount of the deep purple shade 'Subra' though!

Lips

Holiday Make-Up Essentials Lipstick MAC NARS Benefit Urban Decay Rimmel

Finally, lips! I took a huge bag full of every lip colour and product type ever, and these were the 6 I actually used. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jane, the perfect nude for pairing with a smokey eye. I also topped it with Benefit's Hoola gloss. Rimmel's The Only One Lipsticks have amazing staying power, and when I spotted this coral shade called 'Peachy Beachy' I couldn't resist. I took Urban Decay's Anarchy Lipstick with me for a bright pop of pink, and Mac's Lady Danger for a tropical spin on a classic red. Finally, I took NARS Audacious Lipstick in Liv with me too. I've fallen in love with this deep burgundy/plum shade!
